Sitting is the new Smoking

Average person sits up to 6-8 hours per day. When you sit you aren’t using any energy like you do when standing or in movement. Today we tend to sit all day based on our jobs, schooling, and when we are home relaxing or enjoying watching TV. We sit when we eat, not to mention we have to continue to sit while we drive from place to place. We are truly sitting ourselves to death. Research has been proving that sitting can connect to a lot of our problems. Like cancer, obesity, and pain/chronic injury. Even if you are exercising 6 days a week for over 30 minutes. It’s still not enough. There are many factors into going the question as of why sitting is so bad for you. The first is the way you are sitting. 80% of america population have poor posture and it effects gravely on your body. Due to poor posture it gives up to 85% americans having lower back pain and neck pain. The pain is increased by your posture and how much we are sitting with that bad posture. (need info on how to add postural functions with correct alignment etc). Another factor that goes into posture is gravity. If you have poor posture when sitting gravity will add to your posture pulling your body down even further making your posture alignment worse.

Cause
We are constantly sitting, whether its for our job, driving, entertainment, eating, relaxing. We are also not moving as much as we need to. With little movement even with exercise can cause and add to injuries and create new injuries. Low back is the weakest point in the human body. We allow our low back to stop us from more movement and that’s when our body becomes stuck. Stuck by sitting for hours in our poor posture and muscles and fascia tissue crystalize and create chronic injuries.
Effects
The risks of sitting for long period of times all the time is like the risks of dying posed by obesity and smoking. Due increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels it will increase from sitting everyday for longer than 8 hours a day. Many side effects that increase your chance with dangerous health such as Weakness in your body, higher chances diabetes, obesity, DVT. Even if you do exercise sitting for so long will completely undo everything you just did prior to the workout. Not to mention toll on your mental health, it will increase higher chances of anxiety and depression.
