Massages are often thought of as a relaxing and feel good technique. At Structura Body Therapies, our job is to find the root of the problem and fix it. Good Pain

A deep massage can be intense and often uncomfortable. Although feeling pain is common among our patients, it is described as a “good pain.” A good pain comes from the release of tension. The pain is manageable which allows you to keep your muscles relaxed enough to allow the pressure into the tissue. Additionally, you will be able to breathe comfortably. After several sessions, you will notice major improvement and relief in on-going pain.

Bad Pain

Bad pain stems from working on knots and areas of chronic pain with too much pressure. It’s best to work on these knots with light, comfortable pressure for a longer duration. You will be able to tell if it’s a bad pain if it makes you hold your breath or cringe from the pressure. If the pressure is too deep, there is a chance that the tissue may become injured. Additionally, you may experience more inflammation, causing soreness.

Relief of Pain

A deep tissue massage will often result in the relief of pain. Pain can be caused by trigger points that can cause the affected muscle to be sensitive and release pain throughout the body. Trigger points are mainly common in the shoulder, neck and back muscles. Deep tissue massage can focus on these trigger points, releasing the tension of the muscle while decreasing the pain.
