Low back pain
Summary
Low back pain can be either acute or chronic and a very disabling condition. Low back pain is often caused because of an exaggerated curve in the lumbar spine also known as Lordosis. (This is most often where Scoliosis begins as well.) This is caused due to the tension of low back muscles such as the Iliopsoas group, Quadratus Lumborum and Erector Spinae. The psoas is the major supporting guy-wire of the low back between the spine and the leg, joining upper body to lower, breathing to walking and acting with other local muscles in complex ways for steadying various movements. As these muscles work to stabilize the spine they often are forced to compress and lock down virtually eliminating movement in the low back. Not only does this result in back pain, but it also creates compression on all of the structures in the area resulting in disc and spine related dysfunctions and diseases.

Cause
There many factors going into back pain and 70% US population have some type of back pain in their life. The low back is a weak point in the body. One easy cause to an injured back pain is from bad posture. Constantly hunching over desk work, looking down at your phone, not sitting properly in seats during school or work can also pull a strain in your back muscles. Acute injuries usually last around 6 weeks but can worsen becoming chronic injuries. Types of chronic lower back injuries are:
- muscle or ligament strain – which can be improper lifting heavy objects or sudden awkward moment to strain those back muscles and later on with a constant strain the spinal lines can affect other points in your body such as neck, shoulders, and numbness down one or both legs.
- ruptured disks – disks are soft material that sit between each bone in your spine, can move, either making it ruptured or a bulging disk, that can potentially press or pinch nerves causing lower back pain.
- arthritis – could be another factor to cause of lower back pain narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, a condition called spinal stenosis.
Effects
Some effects that can increase chances or enhance your lower back pain.
- Age – In your older years back pain is more common starting around 30 or 40
- Lack of exercise – with not enough exercise your muscles and flexibly decreases, making it easy to interrupt it in an awkward way doing something you’re not use to doing. Excess weight is also a factor that can put a strain in your back.
- Improper lift – many people lift things wrong. Using their back instead of their legs can easily lead to back pain
